The madhat R&T (Research and Tinkering) team are playing in the sandpit, fighting over the toys. Which is understandable, because in this case that includes a Kinect tracking unit and a video projector.

The Kinect scans the surface of the sand and sends real-time topographic data to software that was developed in-house. The video beamer then projects the corresponding colour back onto the sand. Blue is for pits, green, yellow and brown are for plains and mountains.

The result is an interactive, three-dimensional map – and fun by the ton!
